Premier Jean Charest met with former Mexican President Vicente Fox during a Symposium on Democracy, Parliamentarians and the Media organized by the Québec National Assembly. The meeting was an opportunity for Premier Charest to tell Vicente Fox about Québec’s Plan Nord (Northern Plan) and take stock of economic trade between Québec and Mexico. Mexico is a high-priority, promising market for Québec. Annual trade between the two jurisdictions adds up to $3.7 billion.
Fox was in Québec to give the closing address at the symposium. He is the Co-president of Centrist Democrat International, an international organization of Christian Democrat parties, and the founder of Centro Fox, a study centre focusing on democracy and freedom.
The Symposium on Democracy, Parliamentarians and the Media was part of a series of activities held to mark the 125th anniversary of Québec’s Parliament Building and the 140th anniversary of the Tribune de la presse du Parlement de Québec (Québec parliamentary press gallery).
