The Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and the Ministry of Higher Education of the Arab Republic of Egypt have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to intensify university cooperation between Québec and this Francophonie partner in the Middle East.
Among other things, the MOU will foster university cooperation by enabling UQAM’s various constituents to establish collaboration directly with universities in Egypt. Québec already maintains cooperative ties with Egypt in such areas as museum studies and literature.
Egypt Week
The Memorandum was signed by Claude Corbo, Rector of UQAM, and Mohamed Gaber, First Under Secretary for Cultural Affairs, Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education, during the opening of Egypt Week, which was held at UQAM from November 30 to December 4. The event attracted a number of university and institutional experts who discussed political, economic, social and cultural issues related to Egypt.
The Ministère des Relations Internationales lent its support to Egypt Week, which was organized by UQAM’s Institute of International Studies of Montréal with the collaboration of the Consulate General of Egypt in Montréal and UQAM’s UNESCO Chair in Studies of Philosophic Foundations of Justice and Democratic Society. Participants from Egypt showed interest in holding a similar event on Québec in Egypt.
