BruxellesA joint declaration announcing the creation of a France-Québec migration movement and integration working group was signed in Paris on September 14 by the French Minister of Immigration and Integration, National Identity and Mutually-Supportive Development, Éric Besson, and the Québec Minister of Immigration and Cultural Communities, Yolande James.
This declaration was signed at the “Migration and Integration: New Challenges in Globalization” symposium organized by Minister Besson.
The working group will be responsible for:
● establishing a permanent procedure for consultation and coordination between France and Québec;
● ensuring that best practices are shared and expertise is transferred as concerns migration movements, migrant in-take and integration;
● facilitating the exchange of information about the situation in Québec and France as concerns migration movements and integration;
● implementing concrete cooperative efforts in migrant in-take and the process of integrating them.
Minister Bessons and Minister James agreed that the working group will begin its work by the end of 2010.
The creation of this work group will help strengthen cooperation between France and Québec in the area of migration movements and integration in accordance with the decisions that were made at the 15th Alternating Meeting of Québec’s Premier and France’s Prime Minister in July 2008.
