Québec welcomed a delegation from the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (Central Party School) on June 26. The visit was organized under an agreement signed in March 2006 by the Canadian organization Rights & Democracy and the Central Party School. The partnership between the two organizations is aimed at opening channels for dialogue on human rights and democratic development.
A meeting was held under the theme “Harmonious Society and Human Rights: Achieving Results,” in the presence of representatives of two Québec political parties, Raymond Bernier (QLP) and Gérard Deltall (ADQ).
The issues of respect for minorities and gender equality were raised. The Central Party School delegates showed a keen interest in the harmonious coexistence of political parties with significantly different opinions in Québec. The delegation then visited the Secrétariat à la condition féminine and the Secrétariat aux affaires autochtones.
The Central Party School has a significant impact on the political ideas espoused by the Chinese government. Its mission is to train future Chinese leaders in areas such as governance and international relations.
Bolstering relations between China and Québec is a priority for the Government of Québec. China is an important partner of Québec in the areas of education, scientific and technological research and commercial trade.
