During their official visit to Brussels (June 26-29), Québec Premier Jean Charest and Manitoba Premier Gary Doer demonstrated their commitment to fighting climate change and reiterated their desire to sign an expanded Canada-EU economic partnership agreement in the next two years.
En route to Copenhagen: European and North American regional climate change partnership
At the invitation of the Climate Group, the Premiers addressed a group of European regional representatives on June 26 in a bid to highlight the key role that subnational governments can play in the fight against climate change. In addition to being closer to the people they represent, subnational governments have legislative powers and possess the necessary law and policy enforcement mechanisms. They can thus make a real difference in addressing this daunting challenge that concerns us all.
