A short description of several activities :
- En route to Copenhagen – Partnership on climate change involving North American and European regional governments
In the run-up to the Copenhagen Conference in December 2009, the Québec and Manitoba governments and the Climate Group, in association with Catalonia and the Assembly of European Regions, are organizing a breakfast conference aimed at developing a strategy for recognizing the role of subnational governments and regions in combating climate change.
Chaired by Climate Group CEO Steve Howard, the conference will feature a roster of speakers highly regarded for their leadership in tackling climate change. Québec Premier Jean Charest and Manitoba Premier Gary Doer, together with Michèle Sabban, President of the Assembly of European Regions and Francesc Baltasar i Albesa, Catalonian Minister of the Environment and Housing, will discuss opportunities for cooperation between subnational governments and regions.
- Ceremony marking Quebec’s and Manitoba’s decision to join the UNDP partnership “Towards Carbon Neutral and Climate Change Resilient Territories”
The Premiers of Québec and Manitoba, Jean Charest and Gary Doer, will announce their decision to join the UNDP’s partnership program promoting north-south cooperation in climate policy development. Christophe Nuttall, UNDP Director, Hub for Innovative Partnerships, and Xavier Gizard, Secretary General, Forum of Global Associations of Regions, will discuss the importance of action and partnership.
- Roundtable on the new proposed CANADA-EU Economic partnership agreement
As part of a panel organized by the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS), Québec Premier Jean Charest and Manitoba Premier Gary Doer will discuss expectations surrounding a new-generation economic partnership agreement and the impact on transatlantic relations from the perspective of a natural resource-rich country such as Canada. Philippe de Buck, Director General of Business Europe, and Pascal Kerneis, Managing Director of the European Services Forum, will discuss expectations and opportunities for the services sector and the wider business community.
