Recipients of 2009 Anne-Marie Boucher grants

For the third consecutive year, the International Association of Québec Studies, thanks to a donation made by Anne-Marie Boucher, encourages projects by instructors, authors and students intended to teach non-francophones about Québec and its culture through teaching French. This year, five people received a grant.

In the “instructor” category, Denise Lussier, professor in the Faculty of Education at McGill University, will participate in a seminar organized by the Swedish French teacher association known as the Association des enseignants de français en Suède (AEFS) and the Department of French of Stockholm University. She will give a lecture discussing the effects of intercultural understanding on learning French.



In the “author” category, David Graham will be able to count on a grant for the production, promotion and distribution of his work “Tire-toi une bûche: Des exercices pédagogiques sur la musique de Mes Aïeux” (Pull yourself up a log: educational exercises using music by Mes Aïeux) intended for students who are learning French as a foreign language.

Martine Verjans, of Hasselt University in Belgium, earned a grant that will ensure the production and distribution of an educational multimedia module entitled “Faire des affaires avec des Québécois au Québec” (Doing business with Quebecers in Québec). This module will be produced as part of the Plurilingua series, designed for business managers who want to improve their communication skills.



In the “student” category, Marilène Rousseau, student and research assistant at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, will be able to pursue her educational project entitled “Coup de théâtre,” intended to promote idiomatic expressions and spoken language in Québec among non-francophones. Claudia Torres Castillo, professor at Autonome University in Mexico and student in the master’s of linguistic and cultural diversity program at the University of Maine, will be able to continue to create a Web site intended for French teachers in Mexico that integrates Québec cultural content.
