Délégation générale du Québec à Londres
We are proud to announce the publication of the Spring/Summer edition of our “Québec Culture” magazine, featuring a host of exciting offerings from Québec on this side of the Atlantic.
Grab your diary! Our new magazine is out and, as ever, there will be plenty of occasions to enjoy the richness, dynamism and diversity of Québec culture this Spring/Summer season across our territory.
As you will see, this new edition marks the beginning of our 60th anniversary celebrations.
Our Agent-General, Line Rivard says: “As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the opening of the Québec Government Office in London this year, alongside the 30th anniversary of the creation of the cultural service, I feel extremely honoured to be the custodian of this now long and rich history. Thanks to the initiatives of the Lesage government during the 1960s, in the wake of what we call the quiet revolution, “La Révolution tranquille”, our nation began to open up to the world. We had a lot to learn, and soon realised that we needed to take our place on the international stage. The development of our global network of offices – now thirty-three strong – helped make this possible. Our artists and creators watched, listened to and experienced what the world had to offer, and in turn began to sing with their own voice.”
This 64th edition even includes an interview from Colin Hicks, our Founding Director for Culture between 1992 and 2010. He says: “I am delighted to observe that these relationships continue, and it is an honour to be asked to present this 30th anniversary programme of the founding of the London cultural service. Long may the successes of Québec artists and their local partners in this part of the world continue!”
There are numerous cultural events coming to all the countries covered by our Office. We could not be prouder of Québec’s culture and how brightly it shines here.
From the infamous folk sounds of Le Vent du Nord – whose tour will celebrate its 20-year presence in the UK – to the classic Japanese balladry and Brazilian psychedelia of TEKE::TEKE, the pages devoted to music are crammed full of a multitude of talents in various musical genres.
There will be many Circus and dance shows: Compagnie Marie Chouinard will tour Denmark, while Cirque Du Soleil will present its acclaimed show Corteo in Finland, Ireland and in the UK, to name just a couple.
Don’t forget that you can watch French-language videos anywhere, anytime, for free? With the TV5MONDEplus application, enjoy free Québec movies & series, with subtitles! Download the app!
“Today, we can celebrate collectives and companies who revolutionised the practice of their art, like the Refus Global, the Automatists, La La La Human Steps, Cirque du Soleil, La Bottine souriante and Félix & Paul. Many of our artists broke the mould and achieved international recognition, such as Jean-Paul Riopelle, Robert Lepage, Céline Dion, Denys Arcand, Denis Villeneuve and Jean-Marc Vallée to name but a few. Today, we are thrilled to support the next generation of Québec artists and organisations in their international development on our territory. The best is yet to come”, said Line Rivard.
We sincerely hope you will get a chance to catch some of these extraordinary shows and exhibits.
More details about these exciting cultural events will be published on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, so join us and stay tuned!
