CIRQUE DU SOLEIL DAY WHEREAS, Cirque du Soleil is a major Québec-based organization providing high-quality artistic entertainment. The company has 5,000 employees, including more than 1,300 artists from close to 50 different countries; and
WHEREAS, Cirque du Soleil has brought wonder and delight to more than 100 million spectators in nearly 300 cities on five continents; and
WHEREAS, The mission of Cirque du Soleil is to invoke the imagination, provoke the senses and evoke the emotions of people around the world; and
WHEREAS, Cirque du Soleil is bringing to Los Angeles it’s very own permanent resident production IRIS, A Journey Through the World of Cinema, featuring a cast of 72 performing artists from all over the world and will be presented exclusively at Kodak Theatre in Hollywood; and
WHEREAS, Cirque du Soleil has a long history with the City of Los Angeles bringing nine touring shows to the Los Angeles area since 1987, and is expected to drive substantial additional visitors and create a positive economic impact to the local community; and
WHEREAS, Cirque du Soleil’s 27th anniversary is on June 16, 2011, along with the first exclusive glimpse into the creative process of the show to the general public:
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that by the adoption of this resolution the City Council of the City of Los Angeles, hereby congratulates Cirque du Soleil and declares June 16, 2011 Cirque Du Soleil Day in Los Angeles.
