Premier Pauline Marois is continuing her economic mission to London and has announced that Cinesite Inc. will set up operations in Montréal. The company will be in charge of the North American activities for the London-based company Cinesite VFX, which specializes in visual and animation effects for film and television.
As a result, some 200 jobs will be created in Montréal. That figure could rise to 250 by 2018.
The company will also make a capital investment of $6.7 M to open the studio.
“I am proud that Cinesite has chosen Québec as a key partner in North America. Sustainable job creation is a priority of my government’s Economic Policy. Montréal will now be able to count among its ranks a strategic company for its film and television industry and video game sector; a company that is likely to attract more large-scale film shoots and multimedia productions to Québec,” said Premier Marois.
The company also anticipates carrying out R&D in production techniques and activities linked to animated film creation.
Cinesite VFX provides special effects and animation services for film and television. Its clients include several major Hollywood studios, such as The Walt Disney Company, Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros., as well as television networks such as HBO Films and the BBC.
The company has a wide range of special effects software that can also be used to improve or create video games as well as for stereo conversion and content creation.
To date, Cinesite VFX has collaborated on some 150 feature films and television productions.
“The arrival of this global leader in Montréal will strengthen Québec’s visual effects industry and increase synergy among stakeholders in that sector and the video game industry,” noted the Premier.
