The Québec Government Office in Washington (BQW) and the Ministère des Relations internationales, de la Francophonie et du Commerce extérieur (MRIFCE) organized the participation of 12 Québec high-tech firms in SPIE Defense, Security, and Sensing 2013, the leading U.S. tradeshow and conference on optics, photonics and imaging in the fields of defence and security.

In collaboration with Québec International and the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, the BQW welcomed the Québec high-tech firms that showcased their products during the event, held in Baltimore, Maryland, from April 28 to May 3.
The BQW held a series of activities during the week:
•a seminar on current prospects in the optics and photonics markets
•a showcase for each participating firm
•meetings with expert consultants
•a highly successful networking activity
The high-tech company representatives who took part in SPIE Defense, Security, and Sensing 2013 were pleased with the efforts deployed by the BQW to help them position Québec products and technologies in the greater Washington area market, home to federal agencies and potential clients such as the Department of Homeland Security.

Part of the mission of the BQW is to raise opinion leaders’ awareness of Québec’s expertise and priorities in areas such as cross-border trade, energy and the environment, security and transportation.
The BQW is also active at the economic level, providing support for Québec exporters interested in getting a foothold in the U.S. market, particularly in the federal government contracts sector.
