In August, some 1,000 representatives of civil society organizations from around the globe will be gathering in Montréal for the CIVICUS World Assembly 2010: World Alliance for Citizen Participation. The Government of Québec will be taking part in this event, which is being organized in association with the Institut du nouveau monde (INM).
Under an agreement signed in Montréal by the Institut de tourisme et d'hôtellerie du Québec (ITHQ) and the All Japan Chefs Association (AJCA), apprentice chefs from Québec will be able to take part in internships in Japan and their Japanese counterparts will have a chance to participate in internships in Québec.
At a meeting in Québec City on February 25, Premier Jean Charest and Stanislaw Tillich, Minister-President of the German state of Saxony, agreed to step up bilateral exchanges, particularly in the economic and cultural spheres. The Minister of International Relations and Minister Responsible for La Francophonie, Pierre Arcand, will be in the United States from February 21 to 25 on his first mission there since the unveiling of the Québec government’s U.S. Strategy. He will travel to Louisiana, Texas and Georgia, three high-growth states which account for an annual trade volume with Québec of nearly $7 billion.
At the end of January, Québec Premier Jean Charest, accompanied by Minister of International Relations Pierre Arcand, met with the Prime Minister of Haiti, Jean-Max Bellerive, who was in Montréal for a ministerial meeting leading up to a major conference on planning the reconstruction of the Caribbean country. The meeting participants included the Canadian, French, American and Brazilian foreign ministers.

Santa Barbara International Film Festival
The Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF) is one of four major filmfests in the Los Angeles area. Each year, it zeroes in on cinema from a specific nation via its “Focus On...” section. For its 25th-anniversary edition, held from February 4 to 14, the SBIFF introduced film buffs to Québec’s high-quality cinema.
The 13th International Winter Road Congress, attended by delegates from over 50 countries, was an opportunity for Québec to highlight its expertise in sustainable winter road service. Held in Québec City, the congress wrapped up on February 11.
