The 22nd Conference of Ministers Responsible for TV5 was held in Paris on December 5. The Deputy Minister of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women, Sylvie Barcelo, represented the Government of Québec at the conference.

The meeting was an occasion for the partners to take stock of the operations and strategic plan of TV5 Monde and TV5 Québec Canada. The prospects for the two chains for 2012 were also presented to them. In addition, the participants laid out their positions with respect to TV5 Monde’s budget and the orientations of its 2013-2016 strategic plan.
One of the positive points was the increase in TV5 Monde’s global viewership, which rose from 188 million households in 2008 to 220 million in 2011 despite an uncertain climate in the audio-visual field. Québec expressed its satisfaction with the increase in the percentage of air time given to programs produced by partners outside France (31%) and, more especially, Québec programs (nearly 13%).
Ms. Barcelo agreed, on the behalf of Québec, to take the chair of TV5 Monde for the next two years as of January 2012. Québec will be called on to:
