Four other films are in the running to win the famous statuette:
Biutiful, by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu of Mexico
Better World, by Susanne Bier of Denmark
Hors la loi, by Rachid Bouchareb of Algeria
Dogtooth, by Yorgos Lanthimos of Greece.
Incendies tells the story of a young Quebecer’s quest to find a father she never knew. Following her mother’s last wishes, she travels to the Middle East, where she relives her difficult journey.
The name of the winner will be revealed on February 27 at the 83rd Oscars ceremony held at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.
Remember that in 2004, Québec filmmaker Denys Arcand won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film for The Barbarian Invasions. The Decline of the American Empire, by the same filmmaker, was a finalist in this category in 1987.
