In all, 4,616 nominations were received from about 50 countries. Assessment by a panel of experts resulted in the final selection of 100 companies.
Enerkem is a leader in producing biofuels from waste materials. Its exclusive clean technology transforms refuse such as non-recyclable municipal solid waste, construction debris and residues from used electricity poles into clean fuels and advanced chemicals.
Founded in 2000, the company currently operates two plants: a pilot facility in Sherbrooke and a commercial-scale plant in Westbury. Enerkem has also started construction on a waste-to-biofuels plant in Edmonton (Canada). Additionally, the company is developing another plant in Mississippi for which it received funding from the U.S. Department of Energy.
