The Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) recently coordinated the presence of a delegation of Québec documentary film production and distribution businesses at Sunny Side of the Doc, an internationally renowned documentary trade fair. The 23rd edition of the event was held in June at Espace Encan, in the French city of La Rochelle.
SODEC organized a co-production lunch in partnership with TV France International, Film Fund Luxembourg, Swiss Films and Wallonie Bruxelles Images. The lunch was aimed at supporting and stimulating documentary co-productions by producers from Luxembourg, Québec/Canada, Switzerland, Belgium and France, and at encouraging dialogue between distributors and financial partners in attendance at Sunny Side of the Doc.
To maximize the number of meetings between French-speaking firms, a booth dubbed “Franco Doc” was shared by SODEC, Wallonie Bruxelles Images and Film Fund Luxembourg. About a dozen Québec production companies took part under the SODEC umbrella this year, along with Québec professionals such as documentary film buyers and distributors. All of these stakeholders had an opportunity to share ideas, consolidate current projects, expand their networks and establish contacts with other documentary professionals.
Québec’s participation in Sunny Side of the Doc bolstered Québec’s presence on international markets, encouraged professional networking and enabled ongoing dialogue with important festivals and events.
