Women’s rights in the world
CSW holds a session once a year. The main theme of the 2012 meeting was the empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication. A number of workshops were held during the session. Ms. Barcelo interceded officially in the workshop discussing the Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls.
Fighting domestic violence
“In Québec, this has been a government priority since 1995. We are currently finalizing the implementation of our second Action Plan on Domestic Violence, whose success to date rests essentially on a partnership approach. This is why great importance has been placed on consultations—government departments, parapublic institutions, the legal system, psychosocial support workers—and stakeholders in civil society,” said the Deputy Minister during her speech.
Ms. Barcelo had the occasion to hold discussions with the new Permanent Delegate of the Francophonie at the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Filippe Savadogo. Mr. Savadogo played a leading role in the development of cultural cooperation between Burkina Faso and Québec when he was Minister of Culture of his country.
Promoting Québec culture and artists in the United States
The Deputy Minister also took advantage of her trip to meet with the cultural service team at the Québec Government Office in New York and to discuss its contribution to market development and the promotion and defence of Québec’s interests on the international stage.
