As desired by La Francophie’s heads of state and government assembled in Montreux during the last Summit of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) in 2010, a francophone forum in preparation for the 2012 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro (Rio + 20) was held on February 8 and 9 in Lyon.
This forum was organized by the OIF and the Institut de l’énergie et de l’environnement de la Francophonie (IEPF), which is headquartered in Quebec City. Abdou Diouf, Secretary General of La Francophonie, presided over the event.
Québec is well represented
Many of Québec’s public sector experts and authorities participated in the forum and in seven of the eleven seminars that were held in conjunction with it. France Dionne, Assistant Deputy Minister at the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine, presented Agenda 21 for Québec culture at one of the seminars.
It should be noted that this reference framework sets out principles and objectives to ensure that Québec makes culture a major and essential component of its society and that is integrated with the social, economic, and environmental aspects of sustainable development. It was adopted on November 23, 2011 by the cabinet. Accordingly, Québec will be the first State to make culture a field of government action in sustainable development.
