Québec-based Enerkem, a leading waste-to-biofuels company, was named a 2010 Global Cleantech 100 Company by the Cleantech Group. The prestigious Global Cleantech 100 highlights the most promising private clean technology companies from all around the world. In the eyes of the world’s cleantech experts, these companies are the most likely to make the most significant market impact over the next five to 10 years.

Enerkem converts waste, such as unrecyclable household garbage, demolition debris and residues from used utility poles, into clean transportation fuels and advanced chemicals. Founded in 2000, the company currently operates two plants in Québec. In August 2010, Enerkem started construction of its waste-to-biofuels plant in Edmonton, Canada and is simultaneously developing a similar project in Mississippi.
