Washington Center and the MRI: 10 years of assisting students

The Washington Center for Internships and Seminars and the Ministère des Relations internationales (MRI) celebrated the 10th anniversary of their partnership on October 3 at an event at HEC Montréal. Specializing in organizing internships in the US capital, the Washington Center has welcomed nearly 100 students from Québec under the auspices of a program launched with the MRI in 1999.

Approximately 50 former interns and public figures took part in the event, including Michael Smith, President of the Washington Center; Michel Patry, Director of HEC Montréal; Lee McClenny, US Consul General in Montréal; Louise Beaudoin, Member of the National Assembly for Rosemont; and Jean-Stéphane Bernard, Director of Québec Government Office in Washington. Annie Dufour, a journalist on TVA’s Canal Argent and a former Washington Center intern, hosted the event.

Under the internship program, 10 students enrolled in one of eight participating universities (Bishop’s, Concordia, ENAP, HEC, Laval, Montréal, Sherbrooke, UQAM) are selected each year to complete a 15-week internship in Washington, in addition to receiving academic training. This fall, four students are completing internships at the International Fund for China's Environment, the US-Arab Chamber of Commerce, the International Center for Terrorism Studies and the Alliance for Peacebuilding/Institute for Economics and Peace.
