The Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie, Pierre Arcand, announces a partnership between Québec and the prestigious Columbia University.
As part of the Ministère des Relations internationales’s Programme d’initiatives de recherche sur le Québec [Québec Research Initiative program], Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health will welcome, in the fall of 2010, a professor from a Québec university, who will offer a course on health policy in Québec.
“Higher education and research have been key components of the Québec–New York State relationship over the years. Several New York-based institutions have benefited from the Québec Research Initiative, which seeks to support significant research projects in the United States on issues of interest to Québec. This program is designed to encourage greater understanding of Québec in the U.S. and to enhance cooperation between our institutions,” said minister Arcand.
The aim of the Ministère des Relations internationales’s Programme d’initiatives de recherche sur le Québec is to develop a greater awareness of Québec’s realities in the United States.
Today’s announcement is part of a two-day mission to New York, during which Minister Arcand will be meeting with key political players to discuss issues relating to trade, the environment, security and transportation. These consultations are taking place with a view to developing a new U.S. strategy for the Government of Québec.
