The National, a United Arab Emirates-based daily newspaper, won 22 awards of excellence, including three silver medals, at the 30th annual Best of Newspaper Design competition. Montréal designer Lucie Lacava and her team designed the layout of the paper, which was launched last year in Abu Dhabi.
Barely one year after hitting the newsstands, The National was among the Top 10 prizewinners in this prestigious competition, organized by the Society for News Design (SND), a US-based international organization of graphic designers in various media fields. Dating back to 1979, the SND's annual competition is open to newspapers from around the world.
The panel of judges singled out the design of the newspaper's Arts & Life, The Review and House & Home sections, in addition to M Magazine.
Lacava Design also designed the layout of a number of leading Québec daily papers, including La Presse, Le Devoir and Le Soleil.
