Pierre Arcand, Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie, addressed approximately 150 guests at the launch of the Québec university branding campaign on February 3 at Québec’s Government Office in Paris.
Expressing enthusiasm for the decision to undertake a joint promotional campaign, the Minister described the university network as a valuable asset to Québec society and reiterated the key role played by university cooperation in Québec-France relations.
Emphasizing the importance of student mobility, Mr. Arcand said, “In view of the significant benefits for institutions and students alike, the Government of Québec is seeking to increase the number of international students studying in Québec. It also hopes to increase the number of Québec students studying abroad.”
In Québec City, Michelle Courchesne, Minister of Education, Recreation and Sports said, “Québec and France have maintained strong relations in the education field since 1965, when they signed their first bilateral education agreement.”
Spearheaded by the Conference of Rectors and Principals of Québec Universities (CREPUQ), the branding campaign reflects the government’s commitment to joint action aimed at making Québec a destination of choice for international students.
In June 2008, the Government of Québec, in association with the education networks, adopted a joint initiative to coordinate stakeholders’ international student recruitment efforts, including various financial support measures.
