Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and Minister responsible for the Plan Nord Pierre Arcand was in New York to take part in the third Sustainable Energy for All Forum that was held from April 3 to 5.
The event, organized in partnership with the United Nations and the World Bank, gathered over 1 000 government representatives and international organizations meeting to develop new partnerships, pool their ideas, and promote new investments.
Minister Arcand was a panelist in the forum, which seeked to accelerate the adoption and sustainable use of renewable energies and contribute to the United Nations’ sustainable energy development objective.
He took advantage of the opportunity to talk about Québec’s expertise in the realm of renewable energies, promote The 2030 Energy Policy, and emphasize the creation of Transition énergétique Québec, a new government body:
“We will not leave the age of hydrocarbons for lack of oil, we will leave it because we have adopted new ways of producing and consuming energy, in particular through the introduction or indeed the invention of innovative technologies," said Mr. Arcand. "Combating climate change is a basic challenge for all of us. The most prosperous societies of tomorrow will be those that produce renewable energies, export them and invent solutions to make better use of energy. Québec will be among them: that is our vision."
