During a mission to New York last week, Minister of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women Christine St-Pierre announced the names of the four artists who will benefit from an agreement between the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the New York State Council on the Arts to engage in creative residencies and periods of artistic renewal in New York State.
The artists are:
• Lorna Bauer who will work for three months with the William Burroughs Archives at the New York Public Library to produce a series of works using photographs, videos, audio recordings and drawings on the theme “How to sell Burroughs paintings.”
• Kristin Hoff who will take classical singing master classes with Neil Semer in New York City.
• Dana Michel who will create a dance solo with designer Clayton Evans for a presentation during New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012.
• Yves Léveillé who will continue his collaboration with two New York City-based jazz musicians, Paul McCandless and Eri Yamamoto.

During her trip, the Minister also expressed her support for the some 50 Québec companies, artists and agents who are participating in the Annual Conference of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters until January 10, 2012.
Renowned as the largest annual performing arts marketplace in the U.S., this event brings together over 370 exhibitors and presents more than 1,200 showcases. The Conference is an occasion to promote the performing arts, not only in the U.S. but also elsewhere in the world given the presence of artists and presenting organizations from some twenty countries.
The Minister pointed to the resounding success Québec artists have had beyond our borders: “They are true ambassadors. I am pleased that the Government of Québec supports artistic platforms like this one because it shows our commitment to help artists achieve international recognition.”
