A successful first Quebec Day in Pittsburgh

Quebec’s Delegate General Jean-Claude Lauzon was in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, March 7 on the occasion of the first Quebec Day. The goal of the event was to foster trade and strengthen relations between Quebec and Pennsylvania and included panels on innovations in transportation and artificial intelligence organized in partnership with Carnegie Mellon University and Bombardier Transportation.

Mr.Lauzon also held fruitful meetings with Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto and Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, as well as state officials.

The first panel on “Innovations in Transportation” featured presenters Kevin Lewis from Bombardier Transportation and Professor Raj Rajkumar of Carnegie Mellon University. The second panel on the “Successful Application of Artificial Intelligence Technology” brought together David Meger from McGill University; Julian Vlad Serban from the Montréal Institute for Learning Algorithms, Université de Montréal; and François Boucher from Kinova Robotics.

Bombardier Transportation is a key Québec company doing business in Pittsburgh, PA and has a long history of collaborating with Carnegie Mellon University to promote innovation in the region.

Pennsylvania is Québec’s 4th largest trading partner in the U.S. and bilateral annual trade between the state and the province stands at $3.7 billion (2015). Québec companies with a strong presence in Pennsylvania include Bombardier, SNC Lavalin, Saputo, Aldo, Group CGI, Leclerc, Alimentations Couche-Tard (Circle K), Cascades and Domtar, while Alcoa, Ametek and Hershey are some Pennsylvania corporations with significant operations in Québec.
