A Québec tour to mark 75 years in New York

As part of events marking the 75th anniversary of the Québec Government Office in New York (DGQNY), Delegate General Jean-Claude Lauzon kicked off a tour of Québec today that will take him from Montréal to the Centre-du-Québec by way of Lanaudière, the Capitale-nationale and the Chaudière-Appalaches region.

Mr. Lauzon will participate in a series of events aimed at highlighting the services and achievements of Québec’s first government office abroad and engaging in discussions with Québec entrepreneurs on ways that the DGQNY can be of assistance to them in expanding their markets in the United States.

“For 75 years, our relations with the United States have prospered and diversified in many spheres of activity, thanks especially to the rigorous and energetic team at the Québec Government Office in New York. The DGQNY has in fact established itself over the years as an essential partner for Québec entrepreneurs and creators wishing to enter the U.S. market. I am convinced that the general delegate’s tour of Québec and the meetings he will have here will help increase our presence in the U.S.,” said Minister St-Pierre.

Mr. Lauzon will begin his mission by addressing the Montréal Council on Foreign Relations (MCFR). In his presentation entitled The USA: Our Main Trading Partner in the World, Mr. Lauzon will outline the importance of the United States for Québec’s current and future development and share his experience in the U.S. by detailing the challenges and business opportunities that exist there for Québec entrepreneurs.

Mr. Lauzon’s tour will then continue on to Joliette, Québec City, Thetford Mines and Drummondville where he will meet with members of various chambers of commerce and industry. During the meetings, which were organized through the collaboration of the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec (FCCQ) and regional chambers of commerce, the general delegate will present the DGQNY’s role in supporting Québec businesses that want to export to the United States or set up operations there. He will also share the golden rules of doing business in the U.S. and use concrete examples to explain how the DGQNY can help them enter the American market.

“I am fortunate to have a fantastic team in New York. Naturally, we work together to give Americans an understanding of Québec and highlight our talent and expertise. But what I’m hoping for over the next few days is that Québec entrepreneurs will be able to gauge the quality of the services offered by the DGQNY and that they will remember that we are in New York to support them and help them succeed,” noted Mr. Lauzon.

Lastly, the general delegate’s stop in Québec City will be marked by the signing of a tripartite cooperation agreement between the FCCQ, the North Country Chamber of Commerce and the Business Council of New York State, which will take place in the presence of Minister St-Pierre. Adoption by the National Assembly of a motion underscoring the 75th anniversary of the DGQNY is also planned.
