« We want Québec to be the mega-hub of transatlantic trade.. » Philippe Couillard, Premier of Québec, May 21, 2014.
Premier Philippe Couillard recently unveiled the first maritime strategy in Québec’s history to maximize the potential of the St. Lawrence River and stimulate economic development. The strategy seeks to preserve the biodiversity of our maritime ecosystems, create worthwhile jobs in our regions and make Québec a transatlantic trade hub.
The strategy will help to develop the fishing industry and maritime tourism, and encourage scientific research, the development of maritime expertise, consensus building in communities and the responsible development of the St. Lawrence River.
This 15-year societal project will rely on Québec’s competitive advantages and, particularly its strategic geographic position in relation to major international and domestic markets, in a context where international economic agreements are fostering trade.
