From February 19 to 23, the Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie, Christine St-Pierre lead a trade mission to Washington, D.C. and New York City.
Ms. St-Pierre’s program during the mission included a number of economic activities. She first had a meeting with the Lieutenant Governor of the State of New York, Kathy Hochul. New York State is Québec’s leading U.S. trade partner.
The meeting was an occasion for the Minister to present the priorities of her government: trade and investment, energy and environmental issues, Maritime Strategy and Plan Nord, climate change, carbon market and the security of North America.
Québec talent showcased
In New York City, the Minister attended two cultural events showcasing Québec artists who have enjoyed considerable success, namely pianist Marc-André Hamelin and circus troupe Les 7 doigts de la main.
Ms. St-Pierre also met and congratulated the Quebecers who participated in a major fashion event in Manhattan from February 23 to 25 under the banner MontréaL CollectionS. These twelve companies took part in four fashion fairs and enjoyed access to over 10,000 buyers.
“Supporting Québec creators and exporters is one of our government’s top priorities. It is very inspiring to see home-grown artisans making their mark in a country with such fierce competition. It is further proof that Québec possesses a pool of incredible talent with all the potential required to be successful on the international stage,” said Ms. St-Pierre.
