On January 26, Québec’s Delegate General to New York Dominique Poirier was pleased to welcome author and newly-elected member of the Académie Française, Dany Laferrière, to the Québec Government Office. Mr. Laferrière is the first Quebecer and the first Haitian to be elected to the prestigious Académie.
Two days earlier, the Permanent mission of Haiti to the United Nations hosted a ceremony at the U.N. to pay tribute to Mr. Laferriere’s body of work and to celebrate his admission to the French institution. Before a crowd of 300 people, the Director of Communications, Publics Affairs and Government Relations, Patrick Hyndman, spoke of the pride felt by all Quebecers on this occasion, and of the close bonds between Québec and Haiti.
Besides these events at the U.N. and at the Quebec Government Office, Mr. Laferriere was in New York and New Jersey to promote his latest book, "Journal d'un écrivain en pyjama".
