Pauline Marois in London and Davos: 600 jobs and close to half a billion in investments

Premier Pauline Marois ended her mission to London and Davos today, resulting in projects that will generate over 600 jobs and nearly half a billion dollars in investments.

“Our stay in London and Davos was successful in all respects. Our Economic Policy – Putting Jobs First is producing tangible results and attracting global companies to Québec, primarily owing to our policy for the use of surplus electricity and the tax benefits for investments of over $200 M,” said Premier Marois.

While in Davos, in addition to participating in the World Economic Forum, the Premier met with senior management of more than a dozen major companies, including several with interests in Québec.

The meetings were an opportunity to promote the investment-friendly measures contained in the new Economic Policy – Putting Jobs First and consolidate business relations.

The Premier also announced that the FerroAtlántica group will open a new silicon metal plant in Québec – an investment of $375 M that will create over 300 jobs. She likewise announced the expansion of Ubisoft’s studio in Québec City, a $28.7 M project that will generate another 100 jobs.

Promoting Québec’s expertise


The Premier was invited by the Forum to serve as a panelist in a session on ways to promote alternative energy in the transportation sector.

During the event attended by experts, business leaders and political figures, the Premier presented Québec’s transportation electrification initiatives.

“In the opinion of our government, the technology that will see the strongest growth as an alternative in the transportation sector is the electric motor, and Québec is well positioned to take advantage of that growth because it has an entire value chain in the electric transportation sector,” concluded the Premier.

Ms. Marois also met with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Christiana Figueres, as well as with the CEO of the Climate Group, Mark Kenber.
