Restless River by Marie-Hélène Cousineau at the Mother Tongue Film FestivalDélégation générale du Québec à New York Washington, D.C. Thursday, February 20, 2020
After the Second World War, Elsa, an Inuk girl, becomes a mother following an assault. Marie-Hélène Cousineau offers a sober and romantic adaptation of Gabrielle Roy's work. Torn in spite of herself between tradition and modernity, between her deep identity and the forced assimilation to a society that does not resemble her, Elsa traces her path in an exemplary fashion. Her resistance is like nature, eternal and yet restless.
