The Indian government has lowered tariffs on the import of parts and components of electric vehicles to 10-15%, against 15 to 30% previously.
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has defined a separate category for parts and components of electric vehicles for which tariffs have been lowered to 10-15%.
For example, electric vehicles, if imported, as a "Knocked-Down-kit" containing all necessary components, parts or subassemblies, to assemble a complete vehicle with the battery pack, engine, controller engine, charger, power control unit, brake system, electric compressor not mounted on chassis, etc., will be assigned a 10% duty.
The government and the automotive sector are undertaking various strategies to reach the goal that 30% of vehicles in India will be electric by 2030.
