Bombardier has just been selected to supply trains for London’s Crossrail system. The intended contract, estimated at 1 billion pounds sterling (1,8 billion Canadian dollars), will see the company supply, deliver and maintain 65 new trains as well as a depot in Old Oak Common. The contract award should be formalised within a 10 day suspension period.
Québec continues to make its mark on the international film industry’s landscape, with fresh evidence again this year when Québec productions managed to sweep up 8 nominations for the 86th Academy Awards, which will take place on Sunday 2 March. The Academy Awards ceremony will be streamed live to 225 countries from Hollywood.

The Québec groups Yves Lambert Trio and De Temps Antan will shortly be taking part in Celtic Connections, a big Music Festival, which will take place from the 16 January to the 2 February 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland. This year the Festival should attract more than 2000 musicians and artists from all over the world to celebrate Celtic music, including its national contemporary variations and the international cultural connections which derive from it.

On November 29, 2012, Barcelona hosted its first ever Journées Québec event. This event was an international recruitment mission for 35 Québec businesses looking for qualified workers. On November 15, at the Québec government office in Rome, John MacKay, President and CEO of the Société d’habitation du Québec (SHQ), signed an important technical collaboration agreement concerning wood-based construction of social and community housing with the Istituto Trentino Edilizia Abitativa (ITEA), a corporation under the aegis of the autonomous Italian province of Trento, also known as Trentino.
From November 11 to 13, close to 30 Québec companies took part in the Private Label Merchandiser Association Trade Show (PLMA), in Chicago. PLMA is North America’s largest private label agri-food trade show, with store brands ranging from those of large retailers to small business labels. The 2012 edition drew some 1,000 participants from around the world.

London’s Barbican presents a classic performance of Handel’s Messiah on 17th December. Québec conductor Bernard Labadie will be directing The Academy of Ancient Music, a musical ensemble, composed of internationally aclaimed artists such as the soprano Lydia Teuscher, the counter-tenor Lestyn Davies, the tenor Jeremy Ovenden and the base Brindley Sherratt.
