This past June the Québec Government Office in London was thrilled to host three Québec National Holiday celebrations.
On Thursday 21st June, we welcomed some of our key UK partners from the cultural, business, political and diplomatic communities, to celebrate Québec and its vibrant international relations with the UK. Thanks to our sponsor, National Bank, for their support.
On Saturday 23rd June, we organised a gathering of approximately 300 Québécois and friends of Québec in the Magic Garden Pub in Battersea, to celebrate our national holiday. Attendees enjoyed traditional poutine, live music by the internationally famous Québécois duo Jessica Pruneau and Martin Aubin, and of course free Ungava Gin cocktails for the lucky first 50 arrivals. The many kids were delighted by the active storytelling by a pair of dynamic children’s entertainers. A tombola was held with guests winning some fantastic prizes donated by our partners and ourselves. These included a signed Montréal Canadiens hockey shirt, courtesy of Madano, a bottle of Ungava Gin from the company, and tickets to a 5-star rated Québec production - “monumental” - at the Barbican. Hampers of Québec delicacies were also won, as was a signed CD from Jessica Pruneau. Many thanks to our sponsors, National Bank and Ungava Gin, for making this fantastic celebration possible.
Earlier in the month, on June 19th, Québec co-hosted with the Embassy of Canada to Iceland a wonderful reception in Reykjavik celebrating both the Québec and Canadian national holidays. Delicious Québec products were served, including Brasseurs Du Monde beer, Citadelle maple syrup, and Gaspé Cured seafood. These were prepared by Chef Jonathan Lapierre from the Québec Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec), who cooked up a celebration of Québec gastronomy.
