On Thursday 22th June, the Delegation welcomed key members of London’s business, cultural and diplomatic communities to celebrate Québec, as well as the diversity and strength of relations between Québec and the UK. This year’s reception also celebrated the 50th anniversary of Québec’s ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie. To commemorate this milestone, the Québec government is honouring the great friends and partners, both in Québec and around the world, that have contributed significantly to Québec’s international presence. As such, Agent-General Christos Sirros awarded the Médaille du 50ème anniversaire to the British Council, a key partner in the development of academic and cultural relations between Québec and the UK for over 30 years. The medal was accepted by Chair of the British Council Mr. Christopher Rodrigues CBE.
On Saturday 24th June, the Delegation travelled to Juju’s Bar and Stage in Shoreditch, where Quebeckers in London and members of the general public congregated to celebrate Québec. Attendees were able to savour the gastronomic delights of The Poutinerie, enjoy the talents of Québec country-folk singer-songwriter Jessica Pruneau who gave a series of live performances, and have their pictures taken in a specially-commissioned photo booth. Ungava Gin provided cocktails for the first guests to arrive. A tombola of fantastic prizes was also provided, with lucky attendees winning (amongst other things) a signed Canadiens de Montréal hockey jersey (courtesy of Madano), hampers of Québec delicacies and beers and tickets for Catch me! By Flip FabriQue (courtesy of Underbelly). The Agent-General gave special thanks to Mr. Yoland Cadieux and the National Bank of Canada, who leant their support to both of the Delegation’s Fête nationale celebrations.
