From the 19th – 24th March, the Québec Government Office in London welcomed a delegation of Québec companies working in the food and drink sector to the UK on a trade mission to IFE (the International Food & Drink Event) 2017.
IFE is the UK’s biggest and most important food and drink trade show. At Espace Québec on the Canada stand, the Québec cohort, including nine businesses, exhibited a selection of the best of Québec’s gastronomic specialties, including chocolate, cheese, spices, maple-based products, gin, couscous and artisanal cola to name but a few. Delegates were also able to participate in B2B sessions.
In addition to participating in IFE and in the business meetings arranged on-site, the businesses took part in a series of meetings with buyers from several prominent British organisations, including Selfridges, Planet Organic, the UK's largest fully certified organic supermarket, as well as the Corinthia and Hari Hotels. Finally, the Delegation hosted a seminar on the food and drink industry in the UK, in which guest speakers David Colcombe, Chef Ambassador for maple-based products in the UK, and Elizabeth Lewis-Jones, CEO of We Are Liquid, presented their work with maple-based products in the territory. Emma Finn, Trade Commissioner (Agriculture) at the Canadian High Commission in London, as well As Gerald Lawson-Tancred, Director of Xtend2 – International Markets, also addressed participants.
The mission proved fruitful for the participants, who made unconditional sales in exports to the territory covered by the Delegation totalling $2M CAD. The Delegation wishes to thanks its partners, namely the ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation du Québec, as well as the Canadian High Commission in London, for their close collaboration in the organisation of this mission.
