Digital Arts : Chris Salter, TotemDélégation générale du Québec à Londres Thursday, May 16, 2019 to Saturday, August 31, 2019
Totem is a fourteen-meter-tall light installation that explores the possibility of an artificial entity developing consciousness. The installation's sensors scan environment changes and feed this information to a neural network which then inform the rhythms and pulsing rate of the light. It was created by Québécois artist and researcher Chris Salter in collaboration with Sofian Audry, Alexandre Saunier, Takashi Ikegami and Thomas Spier. Totem is a commission by the Barbican for the major large-scale exhibition AI: More Than Human – an unprecedented survey of creative and scientific developments in Artificial Intelligence.
Chris Salter has also been working with the Barbican as Creative Consultant on the 2019 thematic season Life Rewired – bringing Québec-based interdisciplinary expertise in research-creation to help develop and shape the entire year.
