On the fringes of the G7 summit, which was held in Québec’s Charlevoix region, the Premier of Québec, Philippe Couillard, met with the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, on the 9th of June.
Amongst the subjects they discussed, economic and technological issues took centre place. They reaffirmed the importance of the trade links which unite Québec and the UK.
On this note, the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between Canada and the EU, which is currently provisionally in force, is an important means of boosting trade. Aerospace, particularly the Bombardier CSeries, and Artificial Intelligence – two important sectors driving relations in trade, research and innovation between Québec and the UK – were also discussed. Finally, the two leaders expressed their pleasure at the recent opening of the Welsh Government International Office in Montréal.
