Toronto, September 23, 2015 – Québec Premier Philippe Couillard has been selected by the Clean50 group to join the prestigious list of influential figures in Canada’s sustainable development sector in 2016. The Clean50 awards ceremony took place earlier today in Toronto.
“Philippe Couillard was chosen after rigorous screening and research by Delta Management, with advice from internal researchers and external advisors. Mr. Couillard stood out in a list of 550 potential candidates,” said Gavin Pitchford, Chief Talent Officer at Delta Management.
This honour acknowledges the Premier’s leadership in establishing a sustainable economy in Canada. It bears noting that, at Philippe Couillard’s initiative, the premiers of the Canadian provinces and territories met at the Summit on Climate Change in Québec City on April 14. It was the first time that the premiers gathered to deal specifically with the fight against climate change and this initial step will allow for more sustained collaboration among the provinces and territories. The organization also recognizes Philippe Couillard’s efforts at the national and international levels to mobilize partners in view of the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change as well as initiatives he has taken to ensure the deployment of a carbon market across North America.
“I am pleased to receive such an honour, especially since I am sharing it with a valuable ally, the Premier of Ontario, Kathleen Wynne, who is also greatly concerned about the environment, sustainable development and the fight against climate change. Several agreements have already been reached and I am convinced that our determination to join forces in this common cause will gain considerable support within the Canadian federation. Therefore, this is all extremely positive since it will enable us to act even more effectively,” added the Premier.
“This year, the Clean16 group is composed of true leaders of sustainable development in Canada. The competition for the top spots left us with many great choices. Philippe Couillard was selected from among a strong group of peers, which is truly a testament to the importance of his contribution to the development of a sustainable economy for the greatest benefit of all Canadians,” noted Gavin Pitchford.
