Québec cheesemaker Fromagerie Presbytère won the coveted Grand Champion Award in the Canadian Cheese Grand Prix for Laliberté! The awards, recognizing the best of the best in Canadian cheeses, are given out every two years. Laliberté is a triple-cream cheese with a tender bloomy rind. It has flavours of mushroom and cream when young, turning to hints of grass and root vegetables when aged.
The Grand Champion and 27 category winners were selected from a record 268 cheese entries submitted by cheese makers across Canada. Québec cheesemakers swept 13 of those 27 categories, earning more awards than any other Canadian Province.
Dairy Farmers of Canada sponsors this nationwide competition, now in 9th edition, to honour all categories of Canadian cheeses made from 100% Canadian cow’s milk and certified as such. This event was launched in 1998 to encourage competitiveness and product excellence, as well as to increase the knowledge and appreciation of Canadian cheeses among industry professionals and consumers.
