For the 350th anniversary of the Notre-Dame de Québec parish, visitors to the basilica of the same name will be able to pass through a Holy Door—the first such door in North America and the seventh in the world. Inaugurated on December 8, 2013, the Holy Door will attract at least 500 visitors a day until December 28, 2014, after which time it will be closed until the Pope authorizes its reopening.
Many types of pilgrimages are possible, but an outdoor path must be followed before passing through the bronze door marked with a luminous cross. Many congregations and missionaries have already announced their attendance, and some circuits have the city’s founding houses as their starting point.
Visitors from all over the world are expected to visit the Holy Door and are encouraged to enter from the outside going in, where they may pray before the relics of the saints and blessed of Canada. Opening hours are from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Monday to Friday, and from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
