Every year, several Great Lakes organizations and governmental agencies from the U.S. and Canada come together for Great Lakes Week, a series of prominent meetings and conferences centered on the protection and restoration of the Great Lakes. This year, Great Lakes Week was hosted in Milwaukee, WI and featured the Healing Our Waters – Great Lakes Coalition conference, the Great Lakes Commission’s annual meeting, the Great Lakes Summit, and the International Joint Commission’s triennial meeting and public forums.
Québec has a vested interest in Great Lakes issues and was an active participant in key discussions involving the St. Lawrence Seaway, aquatic invasive species, and transportation. Additionally, as a member of the Great Lakes Commission, Québec gave significant focus to discussions and resolutions regarding the economic development of river mouth communities in the Great Lakes basin. The Great Lakes Commission also passed an action item to produce a study on crude oil transportation in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence region.
