The Minister of Natural Resources, Martine Ouellet, and the Deputy Premier and Minister of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region, François Gendron, are proud to announce the grand opening of the mine Westwood , a gold-bearing project from Canadian mining company, IAMGOLD.
According to Minister Ouellet, the Westwood Project will employ 700 people for the next 19 years – great news for a region dependent on the mining industry.
IAMGOLD has invested over 700 million dollars, which includes renovations to a treatment facility less than two kilometers from the mine. IAMGOLD anticipates producing 180,000 ounces of gold per year.
Westwood’s treatment facility has been in operation since March 2013 and will be at full working capacity in October 2013.
