Nova Bus announced Wednesday it signed a major contract worth $148 million for 300 diesel buses with the Chicago Transit Authority. Nadine Bernard, spokesperson for the St-Eustache firm, said the deal contains an option clause for 150 additional buses.
"What's particularly interesting about this deal is that all 300 buses will be delivered in one year, 2014. We see this sort of thing very rarely in North America."
"And it's gratifying for us because they're repeat customers."
The buses will replace some of the 477 Nova Bus vehicles the Chicago mass transit operator bought in 2000 and are still in operation, CTA spokesperson Catherine Hosinski said.
Nova Bus edged out two rivals for the Chicago deal, Winnipeg's New Flyer and U.S.-based Gillig.
