Three years after Chicago last hosted the BIO International Convention, the show returns to the Windy City for its 2013 edition from April 22- 25. The show, which is held annually in major cities throughout the U.S., is the largest and most important event for the biotechnologies industry worldwide. Over 15,000 attendees, including business leaders, government officials and researchers, are expected to attend. The three-day convention includes an exhibition hall with over 2,000 exhibitors, panel sessions on the latest industry developments, and one-on-one partnering meetings.
A group of industry experts and economic developers from Québec led by Nicolas Marceau, Minister of Finance and the Economy, will participate in the convention. Investissement Québec, the province’s premier establishment for attracting and facilitating investment from abroad, will also be active in the show through its Chicago-based team and representatives traveling from Québec. Finally, the on-site Québec Government Office in Chicago is significantly involved in the planning for the show. In particular, they have helped organize several parallel events that will bring together investors and professionals from Québec’s biotechnologies industry along with their counterparts from throughout North America and the world.
Canada represents the largest international delegation at BIO and Québec plays an important role. This province alone manages over 40% of Canada’s venture capital investments, is home to operations of the world’s 10 largest pharmaceutical companies, and is an important North American hub for research in the life sciences. Québec’s exhibit will be called “Partner To Prosper” and will be located within the Canada Pavilion in booth 4431, Hall C.
