From November 11 to 13, close to 30 Québec companies took part in the Private Label Merchandiser Association Trade Show (PLMA), in Chicago. PLMA is North America’s largest private label agri-food trade show, with store brands ranging from those of large retailers to small business labels. The 2012 edition drew some 1,000 participants from around the world.
Québec companies’ involvement in this industry generates major business opportunities, and an event like PLMA facilitates meetings and opens up new markets. The participating Québec businesses represented the following sectors: prepared and frozen products, beverages, maple products, condiments, ingredients.
The Québec government office in Chicago (DQC) coordinated contacts with over 100 buyers and major industry players across the United States, with a view to promoting the Canadian pavilion — made up of 100% Québec businesses.
The DQC’s agri-food attaché, Cyril Gauchet, worked with the communications and public affairs personnel at the MRIFCE to prepare a directory of Québec participants in PLMA for U.S. buyers. The document made it easier for people to find out what Québec has to offer in this area and helped the Québec participants arrange meetings.
