Québec expertise was recently honoured at the annual American Cheese Society (ACS) competition in Raleigh, North Carolina, with Québec artisan and specialty cheese producers winning 36 prizes, including seven first places.
With support from the Québec Government Office in Atlanta and the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec, Agropur, La Moutonnière, Fromages CDA, Saputo and Fromagerie Le Détour all won at least one first prize in the Goat’s Milk, Sheep’s Milk, Cow’s Milk and Flavor Added – spices, herbs, seasoning, fruits categories.
La Moutonnière and Agropur each won eight prizes, followed by Saputo with seven. The other Québec participants won a total of 13 prizes. Québec was ranked third for the number of prizes received, behind California and Wisconsin. A record number of 254 producers competed in 125 categories.
