Six Québec companies and organizations participated in the SEMICON West Conference from July 10 to 12, 2012, in San Francisco. This international event features, among other things, the latest innovations in microelectronics fabrication.
Québec’s representatives used the occasion to promote investments and partnerships with the main industry players. The following companies and organizations attended the event:
• Québec Centre for Innovation in Microelectronics (CIMEQ)
• Québec Electronics Industry Group (RIE)
• Ministère du Développement économique, de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation (MDEIE)
• MiQro Innovation Collaborative Centre (C2MI)
The recent creation of C2MI was also announced at the conference. C2MI’s goal is to be an international reference in the fields of packaging and testing of complex microsystems and micro electromechanical systems. C2MI is an original partnership between Université de Sherbrooke, Teledyne DALSA Inc. and IBM Canada Ltd. - Bromont plant.
The Québec Government Office in Los Angeles and MDEIE helped to prepare the mission and accompanied and supported Québec’s representatives at the conference.
About the microelectronics industry
Québec is home to over 100 specialized microelectronics companies that employ some 8,200 people. These companies are active in a broad range of areas, including semiconductors and circuits as well as specialized design, inspection, fabrication and assembly. It is also worth mentioning that Montréal boasts more engineers than any other city in Canada as well as a considerable number of private and public R&D facilities in the new technologies sector.
