Québec wants to boost its cooperation with New England in the area of higher education. With this in mind, Minister of Education, Recreation and Sports Michelle Courchesne is on a mission to Boston from March 4 to 6, accompanied by representatives of Québec colleges and universities.
According to the Minister, “Institutions of higher education in New England are world renowned. Québec also has institutions with a worldwide reputation. At a time when everyone wants to attract the best brains, it is crucial that we take advantage of our geographical proximity and shared sectors of excellence to increase our links and help make the northeastern region a hub of excellence with a strong drawing power. This can only enhance Québec’s educational offering.”
Discussions will focus on student mobility, recruitment of students by Québec universities and colleges, and research cooperation in key sectors for Québec such as sustainable development, nanotechnology, aerospace and information technology.
Minister Courchesne will meet with the President of the University of Massachusetts, representatives of the MIT Entrepreneurship Center and the Secretary of Education of the State of Massachusetts. She will also take advantage of her trip to attend the first Québec film festival at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts.
The mission is aligned with the objectives set under the Québec government’s U.S. strategy. Released in January of this year, the new strategy is accompanied by an action plan that identifies the main efforts to be deployed between now and 2013 in order to bolster relations between Québec and the United States.
